Rainbow Girls Flamingo Fundraiser; "You've Been Flocked!"
Watch out... A flock of pink flamingos may be headed to your lawn! Rainbow Girls from Roseville DeRiemer Assembly #263 have been busy this summer flocking unexpecting lawns with pink flamingos to raise money for their state service project; Kristie’s Foundation.
During this fun covert operation to raise money, Rainbow Girls and adults have been flocking yards of unsuspecting families in and around Roseville in the evenings. The surprised residents wake up to find “You've Been Flocked" notice at their door and a group of pink flamingoes now roosting on their front lawn! Participants can make a donation, (not required) to have the birds removed or migrate to another lawn of a friend (victim). "It's all in fun,” said adult leader Joan Johnson, Mother Advisor, with a laugh. "We were looking to try something different (for a fundraiser), and it just looked like a lot of fun. People really get a laugh out of seeing them in the morning and the kids like to do something where they get to be sneaky."
Folks can also make a donation to purchase "anti-flocking insurance," to ensure the pink birds will never show up on their lawn as part of the money-raising effort, but people liked being flocked. "I truly laughed out loud when I saw them on my front lawn. I went outside and discovered the flamingos," says Marie Butrica, Eastern Star member, who overnight became a victim. "It brought a smile to my face and I can truly say it felt great to be flocked."
The Rainbow Girls from Roseville DeRiemer and Auburn New Hope Assemblies recently donated $1400.00 to Caroline Gill, Grand Worthy Advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in California, service project; Kristie’s Foundation. A non-profit organization that provides assistance, support and cherished moments to critically ill children and their families.
Kristie’s Foundation has programs that help families with a critically ill child, with all their special needs. The Rainbow Girls are raising money to open Kristie’s Place, the first children’s end-of-life care facility in California with focus on life and helping families make the most of every moment. To find out more information on Kristie's Place, visit website http://www.kristies.org/ or just contact us at info@kristies.org, phone (714)408-9781.
Flocking privileges are open to anyone, so be on the lookout! Roseville DeRiemer Assembly’s 15 year old leader, Worthy Advisor Karina Mash has been leading the girls this summer two/three times a week flocking unexpected victim's homes. "It's a really great fundraiser,” say’s Karina. "We won't force someone to make a donation to remove the birds if for some reason they can't do so, it's great if they do. But if they don't the flamingos will be removed."
