Local Girl Receives State Honor
Phoebe Freeman of Auburn received a Grand Office appointment at the annual Grand Assembly session of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls of California held March 27th-30th in Fresno.
She was appointed to the post of Grand Service representing California in this office. Phoebe has been a member of Auburn’s New Hope Assembly since 2002 and has held numerous offices including Worthy Advisor four terms. She has received multiple assembly service honors and is a recipient of the Grand Cross of Color service award, its highest honor.
Phoebe is the daughter of Charlie and Earlene Freeman of Auburn. She has a long Masonic heritage in Auburn. Grandfather Earle Eisley, owner of Eisley’s Nursery, along with Uncle’s Bill Eisley and John Flohr are all Master Masons of Eureka Lodge No. 16 in Auburn. Phoebe is a third generation Rainbow Girl. Her mother Earlene served as Grand Representative to South Carolina in 1978 while Grandmother Jackie Eisley served as Grand Deputy for the Rainbow Girls organization. Both her Mother and Grandmother are or have been members of Crystal Chapter #57, Order of the Eastern Star and Phoebe plans to join that Order as well in the near future. Service has always been a part of Phoebe’s core values as she is a fourth generation family member of Eisley’s Nursery in Auburn having learned customer service at an early age. In 2007 Phoebe was the top Rainbow Girl in the state to enroll blood donors in a State Wide campaign. She encouraged 365 donors to give blood throughout Auburn and Placer County.
Phoebe is a 2009 Placer High School graduate and now attends Sierra College in Rocklin. She has achieved many honors including, USMC John Philip Sousa Band Award presented to the most outstanding graduating senior band member and The Don Whitehead Award from Placer Music Department. She received scholarships from Eureka Lodge, Royal Arch Masons and Placer Music Boosters Club.
Phoebe is especially proud to have been appointed as Grand Service as this office exemplifies her families attitude and behaviors. As Grand Service, Phoebe will have an opportunity to inspire the entire state of Rainbow Girls to dedicate their time towards service and put these teachings into practice in their daily lives and in their communities.
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls makes a difference in our communities through charitable giving, community service, and volunteerism. At Grand Assembly this year, it was announced the girls raised and donated over $70,000 towards the state’s service project, Bay Area Crisis Nursery in Concord, a non-profit program that provides free support and assistance to children with families going through crisis. In the past 10 years, Rainbow Girls in California have donated over $1,000,000 to state service projects.
Rainbow gets girls ready for life! It is a non-profit, character-building, service organization for girls between the ages 11-20. Girls gain self-confidence, self-respect and leadership skills while practicing reverence, patriotism, charity and service.
