Roger was invited to attend the Granite Bay High School Varsity Football Banquet on December 18, 2009. Head Coach Ernie Cooper recognized many support persons, then announced a special award to be given. Roger was awarded the 12th Man Award for taping the game films for 14 seasons, ever since the school started. "Roger filmed almost every game -- what a commitment. His two youngest sons were on the first team, but he kept on filming." He was also on the interview committee which hired Coach Cooper. "He threw me a question which caught me by surprise. 'What will you do to pull the team together?' I thought fast and replied, 'We'll hold team barbecues.' That began the tradition of the annual barbecues with parents."
