This nationwide event promotes and fosters the sustainable development of strong, safe and stable families in our communities. It also highlights the benefits of healthy singles relationships, and promotes healthy marriage in the African American community. Today 70% of African American children are born to unwed parents, increasing their risk of living a life of poverty. Many single mothers are doing a heroic job of raising their children with little to no support, despite the incredible challenges they face. However, we would like to decrease the number of women raising their children on their own. Research demonstrates that when African American boys and girls grow up in a healthy household with their mom and dad that they live longer, healthier lives than children who live with only one of their parents.
Black Marriage Day is presented by the Healthy Marriage Project, Greater Sacramento. They have been featured on NEWS 10, the Sacramento Bee, and they have won awards from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service Office of Family Assistance and ICF International for their working to promote the sustainable development of safe and sustainable families. The Healthy Marriage Project non-profit organization holds classes and events promoting healthy families, marriages, and romance throughout the year. Please join us in helping to make a positive impact in the lives of people in the Sacramento Region.
