Soroptimist International of Roseville received a grant from the Soroptimist Foundation for the 2008-2009 club year to provide tote bags to Sexual Assault/Domestic violence victims. The Tote Bag project titled: 'From S.I.R. (Soroptimist International of Roseville) with Love' provides a tote bag filled with hygiene products, underwear, sweat pants, a T-shirt, slippers, and a hand written note of encouragement from a Soroptimist member. When a victim agrees to press charges, a physical exam is required and their clothes become evidence. To help preserve the victim's dignity one of the tote bags are provided by a SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) team member. The victim can leave the exam in clean clothes, and not tell-tale hospital scrubs.
Enough bags are provided to the Placer County SART Team so that each member can carry at least one bag ready in each size when called out to assist during an exam. A total of over 200 bags will be provided during the course of this year long project.
Soroptimist International of Roseville is a community service organization of professional women with a focus on improving the lives of women and girls. For over 50 years the members of this organization have been giving back to the community. Luncheon meetings are held every Thursday 12:15p.m. at Sierra View Country Club. Members are actively seeking to increase the membership. Please contact President Karen Leavitt for more information: 622-2191
